MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University sophomore forward Vershaun Jones (Detroit/Renaissance HS) was named the Mid-American Conference Pepsi Defensive "Player of the Week."
Jones averaged 13.3 rebounds, 11.7 points and 3.1 steals last week as the Chippewas went 2-1.
She had 14 points, 12 rebounds and nine steals in a 70-67 win over Wisconsin-Milwaukee and 15 points, 19 rebounds and seven assists in a 74-69 win over Ball State. The two double-doubles increased her season total to four and her career mark to six. She is averaging 9.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per game this season.
The nine steals tied a CMU record and are a season high in the MAC this season. The 19 rebounds were the second-best mark in school history and are the second-best total in the MAC this season behind Cheryl Bowles' (Akron) 21 versus Youngstown State.
Central Michigan plays at Eastern Michigan this Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 5:15 p.m. The Chippewas also travel to Toledo on Saturday, Jan. 15, for a game at 6 p.m.
