Wrestling Holds Awards Banquet

MOUNT PLEASANT -- The Central Michigan wrestling team capped off its 1999-2000 season with an awards banquet Saturday afternoon at The Embers.
Senior Ryan Cunningham (Middleton) walked away with the "Outstanding Wrestler" and "Most Falls" awards. Cunningham became CMU wrestling's first three-time All-American with a third-place finish at the NCAA wrestling tournament this year. The 174-pounder went 26-6 this season with a 5-0 Mid-American Conference tally and pinned eight opponents. He finished his career at Central Michigan with the fifth-best winning percentage (.776), eighth in career wins (104) and ninth in career pins (23).
The 165-pounder, Vernon Cannon (Indianapolis, In/Sr.), took home the "Most Improved" and "Most Takedowns" awards. Cannon wrestled to a 24-13 mark and had a 3-2 record against MAC foes. He took second at the MAC tournament this year and earned his first berth into the NCAA tournament.
Senior Chris Vike (Stoughton, WI) won the award for "Most Near Falls" and freshman Jordan Webster (Washington, IL) earned "Rookie of the Year" honors.
The "Harry Richards Coach's Award" went to senior Jeremy Hardman (Constantine). The 149-pounder went 23-12 this season which included an 11-match win streak. He was a MAC champion this season and made his first appearance in the NCAA tournament.
