Field Hockey Falls To Kent State

KENT, OH--The Central Michigan University field hockey team dropped its Mid-American Conference opener to Kent State University by a 7-1 count on Friday night at Dix Stadium.
The loss drops CMU's record to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Kent State scored first on a goal by Arlette van Cleeff with 33:56 left in the first half but CMU tied the score at 1-1 when Melissa Lazarevski (Rochester, NY/Jr.) scored with 17:46 to go in the half.
KSU took a 2-1 lead with van Cleeff scored her second goal of the game with just 2:07 left in the opening stanza.
It was all Kent State in the second half as the Golden Flashes ripped off five goals. Jennifer Melnyk scored a pair for Kent State while Stephanie Miner, Els Brouwer and Kristen Johnson each added goals.
Goalie Janel Spero (Shoreham, NY/So.) made 13 saves in net for the Chippewas.
CMU takes on Saint Louis on Saturday at 2 p.m., at Kent State.
