Field Hockey Falls To Kent State, 3-1

KENT, Ohio -- The Central Michigan University field hockey team (5-6, 2-3 Mid-American Conference) lost a hard-fought battle with Kent State on Saturday afternoon,3-1.
Kent State struck first, early in the first half, with a goal by Kristen Clayton with 27:43 remaining. The Golden Flashes improved their lead to 2-0 early in the second period after a Arlette van Cleef goal. A Melissa Lazarevski (Rochester, N.Y./Sr.) goal with 29:57 remaining in the game cut the defecit in half. But van Cleef buried another ball in the back of the net with only 4:08 remaining to put the Chippewas away. Goalie Janel Spero (Shoreham,N.Y./Jr.) made seven saves and allowed three goals in recording the loss.
The Chippewas return to action Oct. 12 when they travel to Louisville, Ky., to take on the Louisville Cardinals at 4 p.m.
