Women's Basketball Falls To Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind.--Ball State University proved why it is one of the top teams in the Mid-American Conference with an 85-50 win over Central Michigan on Saturday at Worthen Arena.
Central Michigan scored the opening basket of the game on a three-pointer by Desiree Eidson but Ball State answered with a three-pointer of its own to make it 3-3.
The Chippewas kept it close in the opening minutes of the contest. CMU trailed by just one point (10-9) at the 15:16 mark before Ball State went on a 17-0 run to take a commanding 27-9 lead with 9:32 to play in the half.
CMU got as close as 13 points but the Cardinals entered the halftime break with a 46-29 lead.
Ball State shot an incredible 56 percent (18-32) in the opening stanza.
The Cardinals kept up its strong offensive and defensive play in the second half.
The Ball State defense held the Chippewas to just a pair of free throws until Mandy Elwer made a layup with 13:22 to play in the game.
CMU had a hard time getting any momentum going.
BSU shot 50 percent (35-70) for the game while the Cardinals held CMU to a 29 percent (18-62) mark.
Elwer was the lone Chippewa to score in double figures with 15 points. She also added five rebounds and two steals.
Ball State was led by Johna Goff who scored a game-high 23 points. Tamara Bowie added 18 points and Jessica Reiter 10.
CMU (4-22, 1-14 MAC) is back in action on Tuesday night hosting Northern Illinois in the regular-season finale.
