Field Hockey Falls to Southwest Missouri State, 2-1

EVANSTON, ILL. - The Central Michigan field hockey team (1-1 overall) lost its first game of the season to the Southwest Missouri State Lady Bears this afternoon in Evanston, Ill., 2-1.
Jocelyn Gates (Lake Villa, Ill./Jr.) tallied the lone Chippewa goal in the first half. It was unassisted. Bethany Hendrick scored for Southwest Missouri State in the first half and the game-winner came from the stick of Stephanie Dixon late in the second half.
Janel Spero (Shoreham, N.Y./Jr.) made four saves and allowed both goals.
The Chippewas return to action next weekend on Saturday, Sept. 1, with their home opener against the University of St. Louis. The match at Kelly/Shorts Stadium starts at 1 p.m.
