MOUNT PLEASANT -- It looked like the match might go to overtime but two late scores gave Central Michigan a 2-0 victory over St. Louis in the Chippewas' home opener on Saturday.
Krystal Yee scored an unassisted goal with 2:20 remaining in the game to give Central a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Meg Lewis added an insurance goal of an Amy Kauffman assist with 1:28 remaining.
The Chippewas improve to 2-1 on the season with Yee posting the game-winning goal in each CMU win.
Janel Spero posted the shutout in goal, the fourth of her career. She made two saves on the afternoon.
The Chippewas travel to Ann Arbor on Sunday, Sept. 2, where they will face Virginia in a nonconference clash at noon.
