Field Hockey Loses to Virginia, 7-1

ANN ARBOR -- The Central Michigan University field hockey team (2-2 overall) was defeated handily by Virginia, 7-1, on Sunday in Ann Arbor.
The Cavaliers scored a goal just 5:34 into the game and never let up. Melissa Lazarevski (Rochester, N.Y./Sr.) scored the lone Chippewa goal on a penalty shot at the 23:20 mark to cut the lead to 3-1. Virginia added four more goals to round out the scoring.
Goalkeeper Janel Spero (Shoreham, N.Y./Jr.) faced 11 shots and allowed five goals in the first half. Kerri Krasnow (Eliot,Maine/So.) saw her first action of the season in the second half making five saves and allowing two goals.
The Chippewas return to action Wednesday, Sept. 12, when they travel to Muncie, Ind., to face Stanford at 2 p.m.
