Field Hockey Opens MAC Campaign With A Shutout

MT. PLEASANT -- The Central Michigan University field hockey team (3-2, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) shut out the Miami University Redhawks, 4-0, to start off its MAC schedule with a win.
The Chippewas got on the board with 16:01 remaining in the first half on Tarah Trottier's (Kitchener, Ontario/So.) first goal of the season. CMU struck early and often in the second half with a goal by Meg Lewis (Pittsford, N.Y./Jr.) with 32:42 remaining. Katrina Woznek(Amherst, N.Y./Sr.) made it 3-0 by scoring off a penalty corner with assists from Krystal Yee (Victoria, B.C./So.) and Jeanette Spero (Shoreham, N.Y./Jr.). Allison Foland (Springfield, Va./So.) rounded out the scoring, with 13:27 remaining in the game, with an assist from Lewis.
Goalkeeper Janel Spero (Shoreham, N.Y./Jr.) made one save in recording her second shutout of the season and the fifth of her career.
The Chippewas return to action Sunday, Sept. 23, when No. 10-ranked (STX/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll) Louisville comes to Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
