Women's Soccer Falls To Miami, 2-1

MOUNT PLEASANT -- It was a battle between the preseason favorites. The No. 1-pick in the conference, Miami University, edged the Central Michigan women's soccer team (1-4-1, 1-1 Mid-American) on Friday, 2-1. The Chippewas were picked second in the MAC preseason poll.
Miami's Danielle Berkemeier opened the scoring on a breakaway at 6:15. She snuck it pass the CMU goalkeeper, Kari Alexander (Midland/So.), and found the open net on the lower right-hand side.
Olina Vidarsdottir (Grindavik, Iceland/Fr.) answered by netting her first career goal at 27:19. She hit a bomb that found the upper right-hand side after receiving the lead pass from Anne Fedrigo (Livonia/Sr.).
The RedHawks captured the lead for good early in the second half when Ashley Swinehart hit the open net at 46:58. She found the net on a rebound from five-yards out. Berkemeier got the assist.
Alexander faced 10 shots in net for the Chippewas and allowed two goals in the loss.
CMU returns to action when it hosts Detroit on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m.
