EAST LANSING -- The Central Michigan University field hockey team (3-4, 1-1 Mid-Amer ican Conference) was defeated handily by the 6th-ranked (NFHCA/STX National Coaches Poll) Michigan State Spartans, 6-0, on Tuesday night in the Duffy Daugherty Building in East Lansing.
The Spartans' Maureen Halstead scored the first two goals of the game in the first half and added another in the second in recording a hat trick for Michigan State.
MSU's Bridget Cooper added two goals and Jessica Wheeler scored the final goal for the Spartans.
Goalkeeper Janel Spero (Shoreham, N.Y./Jr.) faced 15 shots and allowed four goals.
Spartan goalie Lauren Hess made only one save in recording the shutout.
The Chippewas return to action Saturday, Sept. 29, when they travel to Muncie, Ind. to take on the Ball State Cardinals at 11 a.m.
