Field Hockey Shuts Down Ball State, 3-0

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Central Michigan University field hockey team (4-4, 2-1 Mid-American Conference) shutout the Ball State Cardinals, 3-0, in Muncie, Ind., on Saturday morning.
After a scoreless first half, the Chippewas Kristy Reed (South Wales, N.Y./Fr.) put the ball in the back of the net with 29:26 remaining in the second half. It was Reed's first career goal. Krystal Yee (Victoria, B.C./So.) upped the lead to 2-0 with 22:02 remaining in the second half. Meg Lewis (Pittsford, N.Y./Jr.) finished the scoring for the Chippewas with only 1:19 left in the game. Maria Neiswender (Hummelstown, Pa./Jr.) had the assist on the Reed goal and Tarah Trottier (Kitchener, Ontario/So.) assisted on the Lewis goal.
Goalkeeper Janel Spero (Shoreham, N.Y./Jr.) made five saves and recorded her third shutout of the season and the sixth of her career.
The Chippewas return to action Sunday, Sept. 30, when they face Indiana University in Muncie, Ind., at Noon.
