MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Central Michigan University field hockey team (5-4, 2-1 Mid-American Conference) defeated the Indiana Hoosiers, 2-1, in Muncie, Ind., on Sunday afternoon.
With the game notched at zero, Melissa Lazarevski (Rochester, N.Y./Sr.) tallied a goal at the 37:10 mark in the second half with an assist from Jeannette Spero (Shoreham, N.Y./Jr.). Krystal Yee (Victoria, B.C./So.) scored her team-leading fourth goal this season to increase the lead to 2-0. Lazarevski assisted on the Yee goal. Indiana attempted a comeback late in the game, scoring a goal with five minutes left. But IU fell short.
Goalkeeper Janel Spero (Shoreham, N.Y./Jr.) faced only two shots and made one save in recording her fifth win of the season.
The Chippewas return to action Friday, Oct. 5, when they travel to Athens, Ohio, to face the Ohio Bobcats at 3 p.m.
