Women's Basketball Falls at Ohio, 75-69

ATHENS, Ohio - Central Michigan University dropped its fourth straight Mid-American Conference women's basketball game here Saturday night to Ohio University, 75-69.
CMU is now 9-8 for the season and 1-5 in MAC action.
Junior Kendra Martin (Muskegon Heights/Muskegon Catholic) led the Chippewas with 17 points followed by junior Desiree Eidson (Bowling Green, Ohio/Toledo Central Catholic) with 16 points, senior Molli Munz (Bellefontaine, Ohio) 12 and junior Abby Lawinger Menomonee Falls, Wis./Milwaukee Pius XI)10. Senior Vershaun Jones (Detroit/Renaissance) chipped in with eight points and 11 rebounds.
"I was pleased with our effort ... we're getting closer," said first-year coach Eileen Kleinfelter. "We didn't quit or give up. We stuck in there in a difficult place to play. We're disappointed with the results but we're getting better."
Central shot 41.8 percent from the field compared to Ohio's 52.9 percent while the rebounding was even at 30 each.
The Chippewas fell behind early, 8-1, and still trailed at the half, 35-28. CMU battled to within one point, 54-53, with 9:11 to play. Ohio then moved out to an eight-point, 63-55, with 6:13 to play. CMU got to 69-66 with 1:24 remaining but could get no closer.
Central will look to end its losing streak at home this week with a pair of games. The University of Toledo comes to Rose Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 23, for a game at 7 p.m. Eastern Michigan University then pays CMU a visit on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m.
