Mount Pleasant - The 20th-ranked Central Michigan University field hockey team (11-4, 4-1 Mid-American Conference) won its fourth-straight game with the defeat of Northwestern, 3-0, on Friday afternoon inside a cold and rainy Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
The Chippewas struck early in the first half with a goal by Allison Foland (Springfield, Va./Jr.), her second of the season.
CMU put the game out of reach with goals in the second half by Jocelyn Gates (Lake Villa, Ill./Sr.) and Tarah Trottier (Kitchener, Ont./Jr.). Trottier also picked up an assist on the Gates goal.
The Chippewas dominated play for most of the game. The Wildcats only managed two shots in the game.
Goalkeeper Janel Spero (Shoreham, N.Y./Sr.) only needed to make one save to pick up her MAC-leading fifth shutout of the season.
The Chippewas look to keep a hold on the top spot in the MAC when they take on No. 24 Ball State on Saturday, October 19, at 2 p.m., in Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
