Mount Pleasant - The 20th-ranked Central Michigan University field hockey team (12-4, 5-1 Mid-American Conference) kept control of first place in the MAC with a 2-1 win over the 24th-ranked Ball State Cardinals on Saturday afternoon in Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
The Chippewas found themselves down early in the first half due to an Afton Hess goal.
Although BSU dominated the Chippewas for much of the first half, a Michelle Fogle (Columbus, Ohio/So.) tally tied the game at one before the halftime break.
The Chippewas came out in the second half firing on all cylinders. Jocelyn Gates' (Lake Villa, Ill./Sr.) goal at the 49:25 mark in the second half proved to be all CMU needed to get the win.
The Chippewas took control of the ball in the second half, outshooting the Cardinals 5-1.
CMU looks to avenge an earlier loss to Louisville on Friday, October 25, at 2 p.m., in Kelly/Shorts Stadium. The Chippewas are tied atop the MAC standings with Louisville.
