Wrestling Earns National Recognition

MOUNT PLEASANT -- The Central Michigan University wrestling team has earned recognition in two different national wrestling polls.
CMU is ranked 14th in the country by InterMat and 19th in the country by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. The Chippewas were also selected by the Mid-American Conference coaches to win their fifth-straight conference championship.
Four CMU wrestlers have also earned national recognition by being ranked in their weight class. Wrestlers ranked in the nation are: Jordan Webster (Washington, Ill./Sr.) eighth at 133-pounds; Jason Mester (Mineral Point, Wis./Jr.) 15th at 141; Ty Morgan (Huber Heights, Ohio/Jr.) 13th at 149; and David Bolyard (Akron, Ohio/So.) 12th at 157. Both Webster and Mester were chosen to win their weight class at the MAC tournament and all four are returning national qualifiers.
The Chippewas host their annual Maroon and Gold intersquad meet on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. in Rose Arena. The meet will consist of CMU wrestlers in each weight class facing off for the starting position heading into the season.
CMU's first team will see its first outside action a week later when it travels to compete in the prestigious Missouri Open. The open meet will be Sunday, Nov. 24, starting at 10 a.m. and lasting all day. Four top-ten teams are expected to attended: No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 6 Missouri and No. 9 Illinois. CMU's second team and unattached wrestlers competed the last two weeks at the EMU Open and MSU Open, and will participate in the Muskegon Open this weekend.
