CMU Wrestling Comes From Behind To Down Cleveland State

MOUNT PLEASANT -- The 10th-ranked Central Michigan University wrestling team (2-0, 0-0 Mid-American Conference) got off to a slow start against 25th-ranked Cleveland State Saturday, but won the last five matches of the dual to earn the victory, 22-15.
The dual got started at 184 pounds where 10th-ranked Gerald Harris of Cleveland State beat CMU's Alex Lammers (Huber Heights, Ohio/So.), 7-3. CMU got on the board when Brett Faustman (Mason/Sr.) got a takedown with four seconds left in the match, defeating Stipe Miocic, 4-3.
Cleveland State won the next three matches to pull out to a 12-point lead, 15-3. Winning for Cleveland State were: 13th-ranked Russ Davie by pin over CMU's Bill Stouffer (Lowell/So.) at heavyweight; 12th-ranked Rocco Mansueto at 125 pound over Kyle Stoffer (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Fr.), 4-1; and 10th-ranked Phil Mansueto over Jason Borrelli (Mount Pleasant/So.), 11-4.
Fourth-ranked Jason Mester (Mineral Point/Jr.) got CMU's rally going at 141 pounds with a technical fall victory over Matt DePolo, 21-6. CMU's Ty Morgan (Huber Heights, Ohio/Jr.) won a closely contested match at 149 pounds over Anthony Coleman, 3-2. In the next match, the Chippewas took the lead in the dual for good when 12th-ranked David Bolyard (Akron, Ohio/So.) beat Chris Kallai by technical fall just two minutes into the match, 16-0.
CMU closed out the dual by winning the final two matches: Kevin Carr (Warsaw, Ind/Jr.) at 165 over Jason Effner in overtime, 7-3; and Mitch Hancock (Royal Oak/So.) at 174 over Matt Klinger, 9-6.
The Chippewas return to action on Dec. 28-29 when they compete in the Midlands tournament in Evanston, Illinois. The tournament is set to run all day both days.
