Five Chippewas Place at Midlands

EVANSTON, Ill. - Five wrestlers from Central Michigan University placed in the top eight at the prestigious Midland Tournament here Sunday night.
Two Chippewas finished fifth although Derek Phillips at 141 pounds was wrestling unattached. Phillips whipped Ohio State's Jeff Ratliff, 11-6, while Kevin Carr was also fifth at 165 after posting a 10-1 major decision over Hofstra's Noel Thompson.
Capturing a seventh-place was Ty Morgan at 149 pounds with a medical forfeit over Northern Iowa's Jon Garvin.
Eighth places went to David Bolyard at 159 (he lost on a medical forfeit) and Brett Faustman at 197 (was pinned by Sacred Heart's Anthony Reynolds).
The Chippewas return to action at home against the University of Michigan on Sunday, January 5, in Rose Arena at 2 p.m.
