CMU Wrestling Wins Fourth Straight MAC Title

KENT, OHIO - The Central Michigan wrestling team (10-6, 5-0 Mid-American Conference) won its fourth straight MAC title Sunday afternoon with a win over Kent State, 22-12. The win also extends Central's MAC winning streak to 24 matches.
The dual began at 165 pounds where Kent State picked up a close decision to give itself a three-point lead. CMU took the lead for good starting with a pin by Tony Gansen (Belle Plain, Minn./Sr.) at 174 and wins by Jeff Pangborn (Durand/So.) at 184 and Bill Stouffer (Lowell/Fr.) at 197.
Kent State rallied back to get within three with wins at heavyweight and 125 pounds. That was as close as they would get with Central winning the next three matches to finish off the Golden Flashes. Winning for the Chippewas were Jordan Webster (Washington, Ill./Jr.) at 133, Jason Mester (Mineral Point, Wis./So.) at 141 and Ty Morgan (Huber Heights, Ohio/So.) at 149. Kent State picked up a win in the final match of the dual, making the score 22-12.
The Chippewas return to action Saturday, March 9, and Sunday, March 10, when they travel to Ypsilanti to compete at the MAC tournament. The tournament will run all day.
