St. Louis, Mo. - The Central Michigan University field hockey team (4-2 overall) snapped a two-game losing streak by defeating Southwest Missouri State on Saturday afternoon, 1-0.
Meg Lewis (Pittsford, N.Y./Sr.) scored the game's only goal with 26:30 remaining in the first half. It was her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Goalkeeper Janel Spero (Shoreham, N.Y./Sr.) made eight saves in earning her third shuout in six games this season. Spero now owns fourth place on the CMU all-time shutout list with 10.
Head coach Cristy Freese gained her 120th career victory. The win made her CMU's all-time winningest coach.
The Chippewas return to action Sunday, September 15, when they take on Saint Louis University at 1 p.m.
