CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is a show people watch for entertainment but for sophomore guard Casey Manning it's looking at her future career.
"I am studying to be a forensic scientist," said Manning. "I want to work behind the scenes in the lab putting evidence together and solving crimes."
She does not stop there, either, with her career path. She hopes to one day work for the FBI.
"To work at that level, you have to be the best," said Manning. "You have to always be willing to work hard for whatever you want."
Manning is majoring in chemistry and has a minor in biology.
"I noticed a change in how much more demanding my classes are compared to last year," said Manning. "Last year, it was like a review of the classes I had in high school, but this year my classes have been more demanding."
Casey, in turn, has been spending a lot more time studying.
"I study during our study time and I whenever I get free time," said Manning. "I realize it's going to take me focusing in order to do well."
These work ethics have been transferred onto the basketball court. This 5-9 native of Southgate has averaged 10.7 points a game and 5.9 rebounds.
"I am trying to perform at my highest level to help the team," said Manning. "We have a lot of talent and I just want it to show."
Manning enjoys Central Michigan University for more than just playing basketball. She likes the campus and being close to family and friends.
"I enjoy the atmosphere and the people on this campus," said Manning. "Plus, it's is close enough to home that my parents can come see me play, but far enough that I can be on my own."
Her family and friends are her most prized possessions.
"I couldn't be the person I am without them," said Manning. "I go to them for advice and support. I don't want to imagine what life would be like if I didn't have these people by my side."
