Field Hockey Falls to Kent State, 2-1

MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan University field hockey team had its chances in a match against Kent State, but were unable to capitalize, falling 2-1.
The Chippewas finish the regular season 5-5 in the Mid-American Conference and 8-10 overall. Kent State improves to 8-2 in the conference, 10-7 overall and locked up a share on the conference regular season title.
CMU begins postseason play next weekend with the MAC tournament at Ball State. The Chippewas face Miami in the first round on Friday.
The Golden Flashes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute with a goal by Kate McGowan. It was assisted by Liz Fettrow.
CMU tied the score in the 39th minute with a goal by Kristy Reed. Reed scored by knocking a rebound past the KSU keeper after a hard shot by Kim Ferris created the opportunity.
Elizabeth Lahey notched the match-winner for CMU in the 55th minute. She scored by tipping a crossing pass from Kate Perry over CMU goalkeeper Danielle Frank.
The Chippewas topped both the shot and penalty corner categories. CMU won shots, 16-8, and penalty corners, 11-3.
KSU goalkeeper Linz Markwart made 10 saves with Frank making five.
