Field Hockey Falls in Overtime to Kent State, 2-1

MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan University field hockey team took first-place Kent State to overtime, but fell to the Golden Flashes in the extra period, 2-1.
CMU's Erin Dottery tied the match with five minutes remaining in regulation when she scored an unassisted goal off a rebound. Unfortunately, CMU was unable to come away with the victory as Amy McGowan score two minutes into the overtime period.
The Chippewas fall to 4-5 overall, 2-3 in the Mid-American Conference. CMU finishes it grueling seven-match road trip next weekend with matches at Miami and Louisville. The Chippewas battle Louisville on Friday at 3 p.m., then travels to Miami for Saturday's match at 1 p.m.
The match was scoreless until the 52nd minute when Kate Perry scored to give Kent State the lead. Berber Rischen assisted on the goal to go along with her assist on McGowan's goal.
Danielle Frank got the start in net for CMU, making five saves in the loss. KSU keeper Linz Markwart also made five saves in the victory.
The Golden Flashes held the edge in shots, 15-10, with both teams earning seven penalty corners.
