Field Hockey Falls At Louisville, 4-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Central Michigan University field hockey team fell to first-place Louisville on Friday afternoon, 4-1.
The Chippewas fall to 4-6 overall, 2-4 in the Mid-American Conference with Louisville improving to 5-1 in the MAC, 7-8 overall.
The Cardinals struck first with a goal in the seventh minute by Jessica Javelet. The score remained that way until halftime with CMU striking first in the second-half. Cortney Blanchard scored just over 10 minutes into the half to tie the score at one. The goal came off a penalty corner with Michelle Fogle and Kim Ferris earning assists.
Unfortunately for CMU, the Cardinals retook the lead nine minutes later on a goal by Missy Briery. Louisville increased its lead in the 60th minute when Lisa Wassner scored on a penalty shot. The Cardinals final goal came with just over two minutes to play and was scored by Casey Diener.
CMU goalkeeper Danielle Frank made six saves in the loss while Cardinals keeper Marie-Claire Heller made two saves to earn the victory.
Louisville out shot CMU, 14-5, and held a 12-6 advantage in penalty corners.
The Chippewas return to action tomorrow with a match at Miami. The contest is set to begin at 1 p.m.
