Soccer Downs Miami in MAC Quarterfinals, 2-1

MOUNT PLEASANT - What a difference home-field advantage makes as the Central Michigan University soccer team defeated Miami, 2-1, in its Mid-American Conference quarterfinal match.
The win avenged a 3-1 loss at Miami on Oct. 24. The third-seeded Chippewas advance to the tournament semifinals where they will meet No. 2 Ohio, a 3-1 victor of Eastern Michigan today. The semifinals and finals will be held in Athens, Ohio because top seed Kent State fell to Bowling Green, 2-1 in double overtime.
The match-winning goal came with less than eight minute remaining in the first half. Rosamaria Rago found a wide-open Laura Roberts at the top of the penalty box. Roberts blasted a shot off the cross bar and into the goal.
The Chippewas improved to 9-7-3 overall, securing a winning season for first-year head coach Tony DiTucci. Miami falls to 8-9-3 with its first loss in the conference tournament ever.
The CMU defense shut down Miami's top scorer, Ashley Swinehart, limiting her to one shot on goal after she had a hat trick the last time these two teams met.

Miami answered back in the 25th with a goal by Lindy Slinger. Slinger got behind CMU's defense after a long pass by Aimee Prevallet and blasted a shot past CMU keeper Anne Decker.
CMU out shot Miami, 14-5, with the RedHawks earning two more corners, 5-3. Decker made two saves in net for CMU while Miami keeper Megan Ortner made seven saves.
