Soccer Advances to MAC Final With 1-0 Victory Over Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio - The Central Michigan University soccer team advanced to the Mid-American Conference tournament finals Friday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over host Ohio.
The Chippewas now face Bowling Green on Sunday in Athens, Ohio, beginning at noon. The Falcons defeated Western Michigan, 4-1, in the first semifinals match.
The Chippewas improve to 10-7-3 while Ohio ends its season 9-7-3. The Bobcats were co-regular season champions and entered the tournament as the second seed while CMU was the third seed. The Chippewas also shut out Ohio at home earlier this season in a 0-0 tie.
Rachel Snyder scored the match-winning goal in the 32nd minute of the match. Snyder took a corner kick from the right side that floated into the penalty box where it was accidentally punch into the goal by Ohio goalkeeper Michelle Meglaughlin, the first team All-MAC goalkeeper.
The CMU defense took over from that point led by first team All-MAC player Lisa Taube. The Bobcats were unable to capitalize on a couple quality opportunities allowed by CMU late in the match.
CMU goalkeeper Anne Decker made four saves to pick up her eighth shut out of the season, a team record. She extended her career shutout mark to 14, a CMU record and seventh-best in MAC history.
Ohio did win both offensive statistical categories. The Bobcats out shot CMU, 15-10, and earned six corner kicks compared to two for the Chippewas.
