MOUNT PLEASANT -- A poor shooting second half doomed the Central Michigan University women's basketball team here Wednesday night in a 66-51 exhibition loss to Athletes In Action.
The Chippewas, firing at a 44.4 percent clip in the first half, held a comfortable 37-26 lead at the break.
However, CMU didn't score for more than six minutes in the second half and when it did get untracked the veteran AIA team had momentum. The Chippewas meshed just 5-of-27 in the final 20 minutes and were outscored 40-14.
Sophomore Ann Skufca scored all of her team-high 13 points in the first half for CMU. No other Chippewa reached double digits. Senior Lindy Hatfield added seven and juniors Casey Manning and Priscilla Poole chipped in with six each.
Junior Casey Manning was all over the floor, collecting six steals and nine rebounds. She was just one-of-11 from the field, though.
AIA's rangy front line of 6-3 Jessi Stomski (16 points and 10 rebounds), 6-2 Jenny Crouse (14 and eight) and 6-1 Julie Veilleux (10 and three) were too much for CMU. Crouse added six blocked shots.
Next up for the Chippewas is another exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 11, at home against Ferris State. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
