Wrestling Cruises to Victory Over Eastern Michigan, 39-3

YPSILANTI - The Central Michigan University wrestling team (8-4, 2-0 Mid-American Conference) won its second conference dual of the weekend with a victory at Eastern Michigan on Sunday afternoon, 39-3.
CMU won nine of the 10 weight classes, and recorded two pins, a technical fall and a major decision in the process.
CMU gained an early lead when it received a victory by forfeit at 125. Kyle Stoffer (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/So.) took the victory. At 133, Jordan Webster (Washington, Ill./Sr.) picked up his second MAC victory of the weekend, defeating Phillip Plowman, 4-1. Earning CMU's lone major decision of the dual was third-ranked Jason Mester (Mineral Point, Wis./Sr.) at 141. Mester defeated Jermaine Thompson, 12-3.
Picking up their first-career MAC victories were Adam Cunningham (Maple Ridge/Fr.) at 149, and Josh Mester (Mineral Point, Wis./Fr.) at 157. Cunningham defeated Gordon, 5-2, and Mester downed returning MAC-placer Chad Roush, 9-3.
The match at 165 was the lone battle between ranked wrestlers as No. 6 David Bolyard (Akron, Ohio/Jr.) of CMU took on No. 10 J.J. Holmes. The match went scoreless in the first period as Bolyard took down to begin the second. The two got in a scramble and Bolyard pinned Holmes five seconds into the period. EMU got its lone win at 174, as Tim Hoff defeated Mitch Hancock (Royal Oak/Jr.) in triple overtime, 4-3.
CMU closed-out the dual by winning the final three weights. Alex Lammers (Huber Heights, Ohio/Jr.) defeated Ed Magrys at 184, 5-2, Joe Yager (Fulton/Sr.) pinned Tony Lyssiotis at 197, and Bill Stouffer (Lowell/Jr.) scored a technical fall over Tim Breyer in the final match at heavyweight, 17-2.
The Chippewas return to action on Saturday, February 7, when they head to Buffalo, N.Y. to take on MAC-rival Buffalo. The dual is set to begin at 7 p.m.
