CMU Women Lose MAC Tourney Opener

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Central Michigan University's hopes for a Mid-American Conference playoff run in women's basketball were dashed here Saturday afternoon by Bowling Green State University, 66-54.
The Chippewas finished the season with a 5-23 record while the Falcons advance to the quarterfinals in Cleveland with a 19-9 overall record. It was BG's third win of the season over CMU.BG scored the final eight points of the first half to claim 31-21 margin at the break. The Falcons didn't slow down in the second half, either, expanding their lead to a whopping 23 points at 62-39 with 7:12 remaining.
While the Chippewas battled back the final margin of a dozen was as close as they could get.
Poor shooting hurt the CMU cause as the visitors meshed 20-of-64 for 31.3 percent including just 7-of-30 in the first half for 23.3 percent. BG hit 24-of-50 for the game, a nifty 48 percent.
Sophomore Casey Manning led the Chippewas with 13 points and frosh Ann Skufca added 11. The Falcons had four players in double digits, paced by Ali Mann with 15 and Liz Honegger with 12.
CMU held a 41-37 edge in rebounding thanks to an incredible 26 offensive rebounds. Manning was tops for the Chippewas with seven.
