Notre Dame Invitational Launches Women's Track Outdoor Season

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Central Michigan University women's track and field team got the outdoor season off to a good start at the Notre Dame Spring Invitational meet last weekend.
The non-scored event included Notre Dame, Western Michigan, Northern Michigan, Ball State, DePaul and Xavier.
The team was buoyed by five first-place finishes. Fallon Bailey, Jackie Smart, Katie Davis, Kari Taylor and the 4x100m relay team all turned in top performances last Saturday. Bailey was tops in the 100m (11.95), Smart in the triple jump (40-10 1/2), Davis in the shot put (45-4), Taylor in the discus (134-3 1/2) and the 4x100m relay team turned in a first-place time of 47.19.
CMU turned in numerous second and third-place performances as well ... 11 in all.
Claiming second-place finishes were Ariss Seals (100m, 11.99), Cami Moll (1,500m, 4:40.91), Tamera Thomas (100m hurdles, 14.09), Tomea Peebles (long jump, 17-1/4), Mary Raney (shot put, 44-7 3.4) and Taylor (hammer throw, 156-11 1/2).
Nancy Figueroa took third in the 100m hurdles. She turned in a time of 14.17. Also grabbing third place in their respective events were Colleen Johnson, Peebles, Taylor Washington, and the 4x400m relay squad. Johnson took third in the pole vault (11-0), Peebles in the triple jump (35-2 3/4), Washington in the long jump (16-8 3/4) and the relay team in 4:17.31.
Due to high winds and technical difficulties in Notre Dame, Ind., there was a delay in the posting of official meet results. The official times were completed on the morning of Monday, April 5.
The women's team returns to action on Friday and Saturday, April 9-10, when it travels to Bloomington, Ind., to partake in the IU Relays.
