Yoshino finds pole vault podium, Richards qualifies for 400m-H finals, three Chippewas set personal bests in first day of MAC Championships
MUNCIE, Ind. — Central Michigan Track & Field began the Mid-American Conference Track & Field Championships Thursday, May, 14. 10 total individuals competed on the first day of competition, which runs through Saturday May, 16.
Emily Yoshino led the Chippewas in the pole vault, finding sixth place on the podium, clearing 3.87m on her first attempt. Riley Nielsen joined Yoshino in the event, taking 11th overall after clearing 3.57m on her second attempt.
Linnearia Richards and Libby Munderloh represented the Chippewas in the 400m hurdles. Richards posted a finals qualifying time of 1:01.23 for a ninth-place finish in the preliminary races. Munderloh logged a personal best 1:01.98 to take 13th overall.
We had some good performances today, Central Michigan Director of Track & Field Jenny Swieton said. I'm excited to see what tomorrow holds.
Victoria Merrick was the Chippewas' lone thrower on the day, participating in the hammer throw. Merrick topped out at 50.39m to take 12th place.
Lois Creasey set a personal best in the 1500m of 4:34.90 to take 16th in the field.
Sophia Garland and Andrea Merin represented the Chippewas in the 200m. Garland led the way with a 14th-place finish with a time of 24.56 seconds, while Merin posted 24.86 seconds.
Kate Jenkins rounded out the day for the Chippewas in the 10k. She set a personal best of 36:36.83 for a 17th-place finish.
Competition for the Chippewas will resume Friday, with the throwers kicking festivities off with the shot put at 3:00 p.m.
