FORT WAYNE, Ind. - A record-breaking performance by Jacquie Lacek led the Central Michigan University soccer team to a 4-1 victory at IPFW on Friday night.
Lacek had three goals and one assist for seven points in the match. The seven points set the CMU single match record for points in a match and the three goals tied the record for goal in a match. The records were previously set by Allison Campbell with six points and three goals versus Buffalo in 2001.
The Chippewas have won their last two matches and are now 2-3 this season.
Lacek gave CMU an early lead when she scored a goal in the 10th minute. The goal came off an indirect kick from Lisa Taube to give CMU the 1-0 lead.
Lacek would set up Alison Heydorn in the 17th minute for what was the eventually match-winning goal. Heydorn received a pass from Lacek 10 yards out and scored from a sharp angle for her second goal of the season.
The match entered the second half at 2-0, but it did not stay that way long with Lacek notching an unassisted goal four minutes into the half. IPFW got on the board in the 50th minute when a miscommunication within the CMU defensive unit caused an own goal.
The final goal came in the 57th with Lacek taking a pass from Rosamaria Rago and blasting a shot from 15 yards out past the IPFW keeper.
CMU goalkeeper Anne Decker made three saves in the victory. CMU out shot the Mastodons, 21-8, and earned 10 corners to IPFW's one.
CMU kicks off its Mid-American Conference season on Sunday when it travels to Ball State to face the Cardinals at 1 p.m.
