MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan University women's soccer team snapped its three-match losing skid today, playing Toledo to a scoreless tie. Each team earned one point in the MAC standings, meaning CMU maintained its one point lead over the Rockets in the standings. CMU's record now stands at 6-8-3 overall, and 5-3-2 in the Mid-American Conference. Toledo is now 10-6-1 and 5-4-1 in MAC play.
"I thought we were more organized and had a greater sense of urgency defensively," head coach Tony DiTucci said. "We did a lot of things well on the defensive side of the ball. I thought we also did a lot of things well on the offensive end. We built our attacks well, we hit the crossbar once, and UT's keeper had to make a great save on a shot by Katy Boggan late in the second half. We just need to find a way to finish on our chances."
CMU outshot Toledo 17-15 in the match. Both teams generated most of their chances in the second half and the overtime periods. CMU goalkeeper Anne Decker made seven saves in the match, and reached a milestone with her final save of the contest. Decker now has 216 saves in her career, which ties her with Beth Quiney for the most saves by a goalkeeper at CMU. Toledo's Jen Whipple made eight saves for the Rockets.
The Chippewas will play their final regular season match on Friday, Oct. 28 when they travel to Ypsilanti to face Eastern Michigan. The match with the Eagles begins at 3 p.m. CMU has clinched a spot in the MAC Tournament, and will play a first-round match on Tuesday, Nov. 1. Currently, CMU is the No. 5 seed. The top four seeds will host the first-round matches.
