ATHENS, Ohio - A 3-0 halftime deficit at Ohio University was too much for the Central Michigan University field hockey team to overcome as CMU's late rally fell short in a 4-2 loss on Saturday afternoon.
Ohio remains undefeated in the Mid-American Conference at 4-0 and is 6-6 overall. The Chippewas fall to 3-2 in conference action, 6-7 overall.
The Bobcats opened the scoring in the 13th minute with an unassisted goal by Torrie Albini., her first of two tallies on the day. OU extended its lead in the 29th minute when Rachelle Coetzee scored off a penalty corner and gave its self a 3-0 lead when Megan Rentschler's found the back of the net just two minutes later.
Kelly Jordan got CMU on the board in the 54th minute when shot tipped a pass from Erica Takach over the extended pads of the Ohio keeper. The assist is Takach's team-leading 10 this year and moves her into eighth on CMU's single-season record list.
Unfortunately for CMU, Ohio pushed it lead back up to three just two minutes later when Albini scored on a penalty stroke. The final goal came when Erin Dottery scored unassisted with just one second remaining in the match.
Ohio controlled the team stats by outshooting CMU, 22-8, and outcornering the Chippewas, 10-3. Jennifer Cote got the win for OU by making four saves and allowing one goal in 60:35 of action. CMU keeper Danielle Frank made 11 saves in the loss.
The Chippewas return home for their next match when they host Michigan State on Thursday, Oct. 13, beginning at 4 p.m.
