MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University women's basketball added to its already plentiful recruiting class today with the signing of Miss Basketball finalist Britni Houghton to a National Letter of Intent.
Houghton, a 5-11 forward, comes to CMU from Lansing, Mich., where she plays for Waverly High School. She joins three other student-athletes in making up this year's recruiting class: Brooke Heike, Kendra Holman and Kaihla Szunko.
"We are very pleased to sign Britni Houghton this week," women's basketball head coach Eileen Kleinfelter said. "She brings a plethora of talent to our program at the power guard position. Over the past few years, she has received a great deal of attention in girls' basketball with numerous accomplishments and honors. Her high school program is traditionally rich and has been a state power over the years under head coach Frank Trotter. Britni is an extremely physical competitor and knows how to win. First and foremost, she is an incredible offensive threat in addition to being a solid playmaker with excellent passing skills. Having played about every position for her high school team she can mix it up inside and out. She joins a very talented recruiting class and will experience a very successful college career."
A four-year starter for Waverly, Houghton led the Warriors to the Class A state title last season. She has earned Class A all-state honors the previous three seasons and was named to the Lansing State Journal Dream Team as a sophomore and junior.
