Balanced Offensive Attack Leads CMU Past Troy, 75-63

ORLANDO, Fla. - A balanced offensive attack with four players scoring in double-figures led the Central Michigan University women's basketball team to a 75-63 victory over Troy on Saturday in Orlando, Fla.
The Chippewas improve to 7-1 on the year while Troy falls to 4-3. The game was CMU's second in the University of Central Florida Holiday Classic. Casey Manning and Chasidy Myers were honored for their play during the event by being named to the all-classic team.
For the second-straight day Casey Manning led CMU with 18 points, going 6-11 from the field including 2-for-3 from three-point range. She also added seven assists, six steals and one rebound.
Chasidy Myers racked up 16 points while Ann Skufca and Sharonda Hurd both had 13. Hurd also tallied a team-high eight rebounds, seven on the offensive end.
Turnovers and free throws were also key in CMU's victory.
CMU forced Troy into 23 turnovers, tallying 17 steals and racking up 28 points off turnovers. On the offensive end, the Chippewas turned the ball over just nine times, limiting Troy just nine points off turnovers. At the line, the Chippewas finished the game 22-for-24 (.917), going 17-for-18 in the second half. CMU also got to the line 15 more times, 24-9.
CMU's big push came in the first half. Holding just a one-point lead, 20-19, with nine minutes remaining in the half, the Chippewas went on a 14-3 run over the next six minutes for a 34-22 lead. They maintained that margin the rest of the half, holding a 38-27 advantage at intermission.
In the second half fhe Chippewa held a comfortable lead for most of the way, fighting off one Troy run midway through the frame. With CMU up 51-37 at the 13:50 mark, Troy went on a 7-0 run to bring the lead down to seven with 12:16 to play. The teams traded baskets over the next couple minutes before the Chippewas went on a 9-0 run for a 66-50 advantage with 6:17 left to wrap up the victory.
Alecia Jones had 14 points to lead Troy while Laura Lee Holman added 13 tallies.
The Chippewas wrap up their Florida trip with a game at Jacksonville on Monday, Dec. 19. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
