Chippewa Gymnasts Defeat Eastern Michigan

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Central Michigan University, ranked No. 14 in the country, ran its home winning streak to 27 straight here Sunday afternoon with a 194.100-192.475 gymnastics victory over Eastern Michigan University.
The Chippewas are now 8-3 for the season and 3-0 in Mid-American Conference action. EMU falls to 2-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Senior Sara Burtinsky won the all-around for CMU with a score of 39.175, capturing first on the bars with a 9.925. Sara also took third on the beam (9.725), tied for third on the vault (9.675) and tied for fourth in floor exercise (9.850).
Junior Mattie Crawford won the floor exercise (9.900) for the Chippewas and tied for first on the vault with teammate Kara Reighard with scores of 9.775.
CMU freshman Rhiannon Banda-Scott had another solid outing. She tied for second on the bars (9.800) and floor exercise (9.875), and tied for third on the vault (9.675).
Sophomore Sheena Smith tied for second on the bars (9.800) for CMU and tied for third on vault (9.675).
Eastern's Jolene Worley and Emily Koechel tied for first on the beam with scores of 9.750.
Next up for the Chippewas is a meet at Kent State University on Friday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m.
