CMU Gymnasts Defeat MAC Rival Kent State

KENT, Ohio -- Senior Sara Burtinsky led Central Michigan University's gymnastics team to a Mid-American Conference win against rival Kent State University Friday night in a battle of undefeated teams.
The Chippewas scored a season-high 196.050 to KSU's 195.500.
CMU is currently 9-3 overall, 4-0 in the MAC, while Kent State falls to 5-2 overall, 3-1 in the MAC.
Burtinsky won the all-around competition with a season-high score of 39.400. She won two events, posting a 9.900 on the bars and a season-high of 9.875 on the beam. Burtinsky also tied for fourth on floor with fellow gymnast Mattie Crawford (9.875).
Chippewa senior Kara Reighard took second in the all-around competition with a 39.200. She was also in a three-way tie for first on floor (9.900) and tied for second on the beam (9.850).
CMU sophomore Sheena Smith captured first on the vault with a 9.850, and freshman Rhiannon Banda-Scott was in a three-way tie for third place with a 9.775.
Leading the way for Kent State were Phylicia Robertson and Amy Cucinotta, who both tied Reighard for first on floor.
Next up, the Chippewas will travel to Ball State University on Friday, Feb. 25, for another Mid-American Conference meet.
