The Central Michigan University women's track team is coming down the stretch to the MAC Indoor Championships, February 25-26. The Chippewas finished fourth last week at Penn State and will host the Jack Skoog Open this Friday, February 18, in their last effort to prepare for the championships.
"I was very pleased with the performance last weekend, across the board we did well," said coach Karen Lutzke. "We had a lot of personal bests and three school records were set."
To be exact, 16 personal bests were set by Central Michigan women this weekend. As for the records, Tamera Thomas set the 60m hurdles mark with a time of 8.38, and the high jump mark with a leap of 5-10. Both of which made her an NCAA championship provisional qualifier. Also setting a school record this week was Jenaie Edwards in the 600m run with a time of 1:34.30.
"We're still focusing on getting better," said Lutzke. "We just go out there and do what we do."
The MAC Indoor Championships are a week from this Friday's meet. "This will be our final tune-up for the championships," said Lutzke. "Some ladies will run less this week so they can rest and do more next weekend."
The Jack Skoog Open will be held in the Indoor Athletic Complex on Friday with field events beginning at 5 p.m., and running events starting at 6 p.m. Saginaw Valley, Ferris State, Lake Superior State, Oakland, and Macomb CC are among the teams competing with more teams still being added.
