MOUNT PLEASANT-- The Central Michigan University women's track team will spend this weekend on the road at both Michigan State University and Baylor University. Only six athletes will go to Baylor to compete in individual competition while the rest of the squad will go to East Lansing to compete.
"Last week was a good meet for us," said coach Karen Lutzke. "We set two school records in the 4 x 200m relay and the 4 x 400m relay and just missed the 4 x 800m relay record. We saw schools we don't normally see along with a few Mid-American Conference schools which was also good for us."
Katie Davis bettered her regional mark in the shot put with a 48-3 1/4 throw. Jackie Smart also posted a better regional mark in the triple jump 40-10 1/4. Kari Taylor won the hammer throw, but did not have a regional qualifying mark.
"We are looking for improvements each week and we saw that, not to mention we are learning a lot with each event," said Lutzke. "Next week we will see good competition at MSU and the six who will go to Baylor will get to see another range of talent aside from what they saw at Knoxville last week. We're all just looking to better our marks."
Competition at MSU begins at 5 p.m., on Friday, April 22, and will begin at Baylor at 9 a.m., on Saturday, April 23.
