Wrestling Welcomes Fourteen New Student-Athletes For 2005-2006 Season

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University wrestling head coach Tom Borrelli welcomes 14 new student-athletes for the 2005-2006 season.
Set to join CMU next season are: Connor Beebe (Burr Ridge, Ill./Lombard Montini); Trace Billet (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman); Steve Brown (Hermon, N.Y./Hermon-Dekalb Central); Josh Brettrager (Chesaning, Mich./Chesaning); Tyler Grayson (Gladstone, Mo./Winnetonka); Eric Gritter (Grandville, Mich./Grandville); Jon Gruenberg (Eastpointe, Mich./East Detroit); Mike Miller (Uniontown, Ohio/Uniontown Lake); Ben Mills (Perrinton, Mich./Fulton); Kevin Nolan (Portage, Wisc./Portage); Eric Simaz (Fennville, Mich./Allegan); Trevor Stewart (Canton, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central); Jason Whitman (Davison, Mich./Davison); and Josh Williams (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc).
"We're real happy with the quality of wrestler that we'll be getting," Borrelli said. "They all have significant accomplishments in high school, and we're pleased that they have chosen to come to Central Michigan University."
The 14-member class brings a combined total of 17 individual state championships to Mount Pleasant as well as 15 other top-5 finishes in the state championships. Each of the 14 has placed in his respective state high school championships.
Connor Beebe - Burr Ridge, Illinois (Lombard Montini HS) 133 pounds
Four-time state champion ... won in 2002 at 103 pounds, in 2003 at 112 pounds, and in both 2004 and 2005 at 119 pounds ... 175-15 career record ... finished seventh at 119 pounds at the USA Wrestling Junior Nationals.
Trace Billet - Dublin, Ohio (Dublin Coffman HS) 149 pounds
Finished third in the state as a senior in 2005 ... named the Ohio Capital Conference Wrestler of the Year in 2005.
Steve Brown - Hermon, New York (Hermon-Dekalb Central HS) 141 pounds
Placed third in the state as a senior in 2005 ... won conference title with an undefeated record ... placed second in the state in 2004 and fifth in 2003 ... finished fourth at High School Senior Nationals.
Josh Brettrager - Chesaning, Michigan (Chesaning HS) 174 pounds
State champion as a senior in 2005 at 171 pounds ... record of 53-3 en route to championship ... placed fourth in state in 2004, posting an overall record of 47-9 on the season.
Tyler Grayson - Gladstone, Missouri (Winnetonka HS) 149 pounds
Two-time state champion ... went 44-1 in 2004 as champ ... was a perfect 36-0 in 2005 ... career record of 148-20 is best in school history ... placed second in the state in 2003 with a record of 40-7 ... finished sixth at High School Senior Nationals.
Eric Gritter - Grandville, Michigan (Grandville HS) 215 pounds
Went 51-2 in 2005 as a senior, placing third in the state ... also finished third in 2004 with a record of 47-4 ... younger brother of current Chippewa wrestler Bubba Gritter.
Jon Gruenberg - Eastpointe, Michigan (East Detroit) 141 pounds
State champion as a senior in 2005 ... had a record of 53-4 that season ... placed sixth in the state in 2004 with a record of 45-7 ... also placed sixth in 2003 with a mark of 40-8.
Mike Miller - Uniontown, Ohio (Uniontown Lake HS) 174 pounds
Three-time state champion ... was undefeated at 44-0 and won his third state title in 2005 ... finished his career with a record of 164-11 ... set eight school records ... placed seventh at High School Senior Nationals ... named as a Wrestling USA High School All-American.
Ben Mills - Perrinton, Michigan (Fulton HS) Heavyweight
Finished 3rd in the state as a senior in 2005 ... posted a record of 48-2 on the year.
Kevin Nolan - Portage, Wisconsin (Portage HS) 165 pounds
State champion in 2004 as a junior ... was unbeaten that season, going a perfect 42-0 ... placed second as a senior in 2005 with a record of 45-3 ... finished third in the state in 2003 with a record of 36-9.
Eric Simaz - Fennville, Michigan (Allegan HS) 174 pounds
State champion as a senior in 2005 ... unbeaten during the year at 56-0 ... placed sixth as a sophomore in 2003 ... posted a mark of 43-15 that year.
Trevor Stewart - Canton, Michigan (Detroit Catholic Central HS) 165 pounds
Three-time state champion ... unbeaten with a mark of 53-0 as a senior in 2005 ... lost only once in both 2003 and 2004, with records of 43-1 and 58-1 respectively ... career record of 200-4 in high school ... placed seventh at High School Senior Nationals ... named as a Wrestling USA High School All-American.
Jason Whitman - Davison, Michigan (Davison HS) 133 pounds
Went 50-11 as a senior in 2005, finishing fourth in the state ... also placed fourth in 2004, with a record of 48-10.
Josh Williams - Grand Blanc, Michigan (Grand Blanc HS) 125 pounds
State champion in 2005 as a senior ... finished the year with a record of 53-1 ... as a junior, went 54-6 and placed fifth in the state ... also placed fifth in 2003 with a mark of 52-4.
