Pole vaulter Amanda Storck has worked very hard to become one of the best in Central Michigan University women's track history. She also works very hard in the classroom.
She completed her undergraduate work at CMU with a degree in business administration and is currently working toward her master's degree in business administration here at CMU, which has allowed her to also continue her stint on the track team.
Storck has broken and re-broken the pole vaulting records at CMU for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. She set the outdoor record this season on two of the biggest stages, the Mid-American Conference Championships and the NCAA Mideast Regional.
If breaking the record in back-to-back meets is impressive, breaking it four consecutive meets is downright startling. She accomplished that feat during the 2002 indoor season.
She is making her first trip to the NCAA outdoor national championship meet June 8-11, but she has qualified provisionally for the national meet twice in her indoor career. Including this season, the Twin Lake native has qualified for outdoor regionals twice.
Even as she has improved athletically, she hasn't let that take away from her class work.
Storck has also been named to the first team Academic All-MAC each of the last two outdoor seasons.
Her highlights from this past year include a second-place finish at the MAC Championship meet and a third-place finish at the Mideast Regional Championships, each of those coming on the strength of school records, as well as three first-place finishes during the regular season.
The top eight finishers at nationals earn All-American honors. Heading into the competition Storck is seeded 19th.
