MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University sophomore wrestler Wynn Michalak (Caro, Mich./Caro HS) has been named Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the third time this season.
Michalak, a mathematics and physical education major with a 3.76 grade-point average, helped lead the Chippewas to a fourth-place finish at National Duals last weekend. He won three of his four matches at the event, boosting his record to 21-1 this season and maintaining his spot as the top-ranked 197-pounder in the country.
A two-time MAC Wrestler of the Week honoree this year, Michalak opened the season by winning his first 19 matches. It equaled the fifth-longest winning streak in program history.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
