MOUNT PLEASANT - With the regular season winding down, the Central Michigan University women's basketball team hosts Ball State on Wednesday night in a key West Division showdown.
The Chippewas stand at 14-10 overall, 5-8 in the Mid-American Conference while BSu is 15-9, 8-5 in the MAC. Ball State has already locked up at least a first round home game in the MAC Tournament while CMU sits one game behind NIU for the other MAC game.
With just one more victory, CMU can lock up its first winning season since 1992-93. That was also the last time the Chippewas tallied 15 or more wins in a season, going 15-12 on the year. Of the 25 years that CMU has been a member of the MAC, the Chippewas have recorded 15 wins or more just nine times. The Maroon and Gold also have the opportunity to win six MAC games for the first time since 1999-2000.
This will be the 53rd meeting between CMU and Ball State with the Chippewas holding the series lead, 28-24. The Cardinals have won the last 11 games against CMU including a 58-48 victory in a meeting earlier this season. The Maroon and Gold look to return to their earlier dominance of the series when CMU won 17 of the first 22 meetings between the schools including a streak of 12 straight victories over BSU. The Chippewas' last victory in the series was in 2000, a 74-69 win at home.
