Women's Basketball Honors Top Performers

MOUNT PLEASANT - Senior Chasidy Myers was named the Most Valuable Player for the 2005-06 season by the Central Michigan University women's basketball team at its annual banquet.
Myers was the team's leading scorer with 10.8 points per game and shot a squad-best 53.6 percent from the field. She also earned the award for Most Improved Player.
Casey Manning was honored as the team's Best Defensive Player as she led the team in steals this season. She also won the award the past two years.
Junior Sharonda Hurd was awarded the Dee Pommerank Award for the second-straight year. The award goes to the sophomore or junior who exemplifies a positive attitude, teamwork and a willingness to contribute maximum effort regardless of ability or individual statistics.
Hurd was also honored as the team's top rebounder as she averaged 5.8 boards a game. Ann Skufca picked up the award for top free throw shooter with a mark of 76.4 percent.
The final two awards honored team's top performers in practice drills. Erin Kuhl was the free throw ladder champion and Lindsay Mecoli was the three-point champion. Both awards are based on statistics kept at practice.
