MAC Releases Women's Basketball Preseason Poll

CLEVELAND, Ohio The Mid-American Conference announced the results of the 2007-08 women’s basketball preseason poll, as voted by members of the MAC Media Association and league head coaches, at media day on Thursday. Central Michigan University was picked to finish sixth.
Ball State (West Division) and Ohio (East Division) were voted as the favorites, with the Cardinals voted as the favorite to capture the MAC Tournament title.
Northern Illinois was predicted to finish second in the west, with Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Toledo and CMU rounding out the division.
Bowling Green was tabbed to finish second in the east, although Miami was close behind in third. Kent State and Buffalo were voted fourth and fifth respectively, but received at least one first-place vote each. Akron was the predicted sixth-place finisher.
The Chippewas return three starters, including seniors Stacey Verhoff and Candace Wilson who both started all 30 games in 2006-07. Head coach Sue Guevara is in her first season at the helm of the Chippewa program and will make her CMU debut on Nov. 9 against Illinois-Chicago at Rose Arena.
CMU has two exhibition games scheduled in preparation for the regular season. The Chippewas square off with Ferris State on Nov. 1 and Aquinas College on Nov. 4.
