Kelto Wins 184-Pound Title at MSU Open

Kelto won five consecutive matches on his way to the 184-pound championship. He won two of the three by major decision before defeating Edinboro’s Dan Thompson, 7-2, in the finals.
Nathaniel Holt added a sixth-place finish at 149 pounds. He advanced to the semifinals of the championship bracket before ultimately placing sixth.
Competing unattached, Ryan Cubberly and Mike Miller placed third at 141 and 174 pounds, respectively.
The MSU Open also featured a freshman/sophomore tournament. Several members of the CMU program were entered in the bracket, many of which competed unattached. Jeff Shutich won the freshman/sophomore 133-pound bracket and Jarod Trice won the heavyweight crown. Michael Holt placed sixth in the freshman/sophomore 141-pound bracket.
CMU hosts its intrasquad meet next Sunday at 2 p.m. The Chippewas return to tournament action on Nov. 24, traveling to Troy, N.Y. for the Northeast Duals.
