MOUNT PLEASANT After a rousing success in its first session, “Rock the Rose” returns to help the Central Michigan University women’s basketball team make Rose Arena an uncomfortable environment for No. 23 Notre Dame on Nov. 20.
Fans will once again enjoy free food, t-shirts, contests, prizes and an exciting atmosphere at Rose Arena.
The Chippewas are off to a 2-1 start, and are 2-0 at home in a pair of close decisions, in part thanks to a strong sixth man.
“Our crowds have been fantastic this season, and there’s no doubt they’ve had an impact in our first two home games,” women’s basketball head coach Sue Guevara said.
The first 700 fans receive a special edition Rock he Rose t-shirt, courtesy of the CMU Bookstore.
Max and Emily’s and Bellacinos will be on hand and treating fans to a snack, while the Army, National Guard and Village at Bluegrass will have giveaways as well.
Jimmy Johns will reward the most spirited fan with a special prize and Papa John’s will treat the largest group to a special gift as well.
In the first “Rock the Rose” session, held during a volleyball match between CMU and Western Michigan, 962 fans packed the lower bowl of Rose Arena in one of the largest home volleyball crowds in recent history.
“The energy the crowd provided was awesome. It’s by far the biggest crowd we’ve had at home since I’ve been here. The Rock the Rose campaign was a huge success,” volleyball head coach Erik Olson said after the 3-0 Chippewa win.
Future Rock the Rose events are scheduled for a men’s basketball match-up against Cal-State Fullerton on Dec. 8, a Jan. 11 gymnastics meet against Oklahoma and Jan. 20, when wrestling tussles with Michigan.
