Michalak Named to Academic All-District IV At-Large Team

MOUNT PLEASANT Central Michigan University junior wrestler Wynn Michalak (Caro, Mich./Caro HS) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV At-Large team.
Michalak is a physical education/mathematics major with a 3.81 grade-point average. He was a second team selection to the at-large team.
To be nominated for the academic all-district at-large team, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing. The at-large team includes student-athletes from the sports of women’s bowling, women’s crew, men’s and women’s fencing, women’s field hockey, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s gymnastics, men’s and women’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s rifle, men’s and women’s skiing, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s volleyball, men’s and women’s water polo and men’s wrestling.
Michalak won his third consecutive Mid-American Conference title at 197 pounds in 2007. He was named MAC Wrestler of the Year for the second straight year, becoming just the second CMU grappler to win the award twice.
Michalak is a three-time member of the Academic All-MAC squad and two-time member of the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic team. He has twice earned All-America honors in his career, finishing sixth at the NCAA Championships as a freshman in 2005 and eighth in 2006.
CMU won its ninth straight MAC title and sixth straight MAC Championships crown in 2007. The Chippewas placed 15th as a team at the 2007 NCAA Championships.
